BOCES audit means school districts lose money
An accounting error by the Capital Region Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) means BOCES overpaid two dozen school districts in the region by $2 million, the Daily Gazette is reporting. The audit found that a BOCES treasurer incorrectly claimed facility aid totaling $5.7 million during the 2023-24 academic year, the story says, citing the audit from the state Comptroller’s office. The calculation included $3 million in "miscellaneous" revenue collected from sources other than the 23 local school districts that the Capital Region BOCES represents, so the districts received nearly $2 million in aid they should not have received, the audit found. Districts that received the additional funding are required to return the monies to the state.
Tannery Commons project paused
Neighbors have condemned a proposed Tannery Commons project in Ballston Spa, so the developer will “revisit” its plans, a story in the Times Union says. The developer, Conifer, LLC, told village officials that it needs time to review before seeking approval of the village’s boards and commissions. The plan would raze the ivy-covered Angelica Textile building on Bath Street, the story says.
