Bus routes trimmed
The Capital District Transportation Authority will change the schedules for a number of bus lines later this month as it tries to correct for a $2.7 million deficit, a gap that will triple in the next fiscal year, the Times Union says. The schedule changes, which begin Aug. 24, will right-size the organization that expanded into Montgomery County and took over the Greater Glens Falls Transit bus system in recent years, the story says. These changes are part of a five year plan under new CEO, Frank Annicaro, the story says.
A bluesy Music Haven
Rick Estrin and The Nightcats headlined Sunday night at Music Haven, part of a bill that included locals Annie and The Hedonists and Selwyn Birchwood. Estrin’s band has won multiple awards over the past year, and their release, “The hits keep coming,” was the #1 album on the Living Blues Radio Chart for all of 2024, a story in Nippertown says.

Man admits to setting deadly fire
Federal prosecutors say they have the evidence to show that Edward Leon admitted he started the 2013 Hulett Street fire in Schenectady that killed four people and seriously injured a fifth. They took the evidence from a 2024 recorded phone conversation, the story says. He has already served 10 years for perjury related to the fire investigation, a story in the Daily Gazette says.
Cole’s Collision in Queensbury
Cole's Collision Center has filed plans with the town of Queensbury to construct a 16,000-square-foot repair shop near Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark, at the intersection of Glen Lake Road and State Route 9, the Albany Business Review is reporting. The 5.57-acre site is zoned commercial and previously was the Blue Moose Tavern & Restaurant. The location is about a mile from Glen Lake, and the community there spoke against it in a rather firey exchange at a Queensbury Planning Board meeting, as reported in the Post-Star.
