Airport concourse’s new look
Phase 1 of Albany International Airport’s renovation is done, says a story in the Times Union, (and “Woot! Woot!” says the Dispatch). In the new Concourse A, travelers will find upgraded amenities and two new gates, meaning people do not need to go outside as they had done to board planes at those gates. Three phases and about a year remain on the project, the story says.
Dems have DA candidate
The Saratoga Springs Democratic Party has announced its pick to run for county District Attorney this fall: Saratoga Springs resident Bobby Logan. Logan worked as an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx and Suffolk County before serving as an Assistant District Attorney and Bureau Chief for the Saratoga County DA’s office. He now serves as an attorney in the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, investigating and prosecuting fraud cases, the press release says. He will face Brett Eby, a Republican, this fall. DA Karen Heggen retired on Aug. 1.

Mayor proposed law change, commissioner appeals
The latest in the story legal fees and who should pay them has led Saratoga Springs Mayor John Safford to propose revisions to the city’s indemnity law, the law that allows the city to cover legal fees of employees. At the same time, Commissioner Dillon Moran says the council was supposed to consider an appeal of the legal verdict that started the latest dust-up, but when they didn’t take it seriously he went off on his own, a story right here in the Dispatch says.
DEC euthanizes moose
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) euthanized a bull moose on the Goodman Mountain Trail after confirming a significant decline in its health, a press release posted to the DEC’s website says. In May, hikers found they could draw close to the moose near the mountain summit. The DEC assessed the animal’s health and attempted to scare it from the mountaintop, but when the moose did not move, they closed the trail, the DEC said in the press release. DEC and the New York State wildlife veterinarian monitored the moose as its health declined through the summer. On Aug. 6, they decided euthanasia was the best course of action. This story comes after one in early July, from the Adirondack Explorer, that says moose do not have a real future in the Adirondacks. That story relies on a retired DEC endangered animal scientist, who spoke at the Lake George Land Conservancy.
