Lawler won’t run for Gov.
U.S. Rep. Mike Lawler, of New York, said he will not launch a gubernatorial campaign, a story in the Times Union says. The race for the top seat in New York politics will feature the incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, versus…someone. U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, a Republican in the North Country, has not yet said no, but will decide after this year’s elections in November, if she’ll take a shot at the title, she has said. The only other member of the GOP considering the run is Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, the story says.
Anderson, Bluz House in Schenectady
Pop singer Trish Anderson and her band the Bluz House Rockers will play outdoors July 31 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Vice & Virtue at 40 N. Broadway in Schenectady, a story in Nippertown says. The performer, now 73, seems to channel Janis Joplin and Barbara Streisand when she sings their songs, the story says.

Bone up for your English test, truck drivers
Safety inspectors and law enforcement partners that stop truck drivers in the country for a broken tail light will then begin an assessment of the driver’s English, the U.S. Department of Transportation told the Times Union. If an inspector thinks the driver does not understand, the inspector will issue an English language proficiency assessment. This is part of a Trump Administration’s mandate that can take drivers off the road for poor language skills.
Toni's Wine Bar will open in Schenectady
Toni Riggi is opening Toni's Wine Bar in Schenectady this fall, she told the Albany Business Review. Riggi has made a career in hospitality, and is bringing her love of natural wine to the Electric City. Small plates, artisan beer, limited liquors and mocktails will complement the natural wines, the story says.

Troopers search Northway for clues
New York State Troopers spent the day Wednesday patrolling the Interstate-87 Northway from exits 20 to 28 searching for clues in the murder of Melina Galanis Frattolin, the 9-year-old Canadian girl who law enforcement believes was murdered by her father, a story in the Times Union says.
Crisafulli buys Saratoga County HVAC company
Crisafulli Bros., the plumbing, heating, cooling and electrical contractor, has acquired TSK Heating and Cooling of Saratoga County. It's the third acquisition that Crisafulli Bros. has made in two years, and the second of 2025. Crisafulli will keep four technicians from TSK, a story in the Albany Business Review says.
