Six Flags’ troubles and the Great Escape

Great Escape’s parent company Six Flags reported a 9% drop in attendance across the board and an 8% drop in season pass income earlier this summer, a story in the Times Union says. Stock shares have plunged, and the CEO is stepping down. The Great Escape has run without some of its rides open during peak times as upstate tourism has taken a hit—500,000 fewer visitors from Canada have travelled south this year, given the trade war President Donald Trump started with Canada, the story says.

“Big Mark” remembered in Scotia

Jumpin’ Jack’s Drive-In owner Mark Lansing, Jr., met with the community at his family-owned restaurant to mark the end of the summer on Sunday and to accept the well-wishes and condolences of friends and regular customers after his father Mark Lansing Sr., died Friday. Lansing Jr. had taken over the restaurant from his dad “Big Mark” in 2020, a story in the Daily Gazette says.

400 Unit “Fort Gage” in Lake George nears approval

“A boost in recreational amenities and green space for Joe Gross’ potentially historic 400-unit Fort Gage apartment complex was met with praise from the Lake George Planning Board as the project comes down to the wire toward approval in the fall,” says a story in the Post-Star. The plan near Northway Exit 21 now includes a large playground for children, a basketball and pickleball court area and a picnic pavilion and dog park. The space for amenities came as the designers removed some parking, the story says.

Students shop for not-so-smart-phones

The state ban on smart phones in schools has students and families looking for other possible devices that can be used in schools, legally, the Times Union says. The state ban does not allow internet-enabled devices of any type, so some families are looking for those, like old-style flip-phones, that do not connect to the internet. Some school systems are holding the line while others are looking at options and what might be allowed.
