Slidin’ back into Troy

The 11,000-square-foot former River Street Market space in Troy will be the home to Slidin’ Dirty, which has plans to build a large restaurant and performance venue, the Times Union says. Slidin’ Dirty was first a food truck then a local pub called Twisted Fidler and now will come back as Slidin’ Dirty for the latest iteration. The large venue will hold 500 for shows and 100 for dinner. Owner Tim Taney is no stranger to restaurant management. With a partner, he is in charge of food service at Ophelia’s and NaNola, the story says.

Schenectady pool house and pocket park

The shuttered and dilapidated pool house at Woodlawn Park in Schenectady has a new lease on life as the city secured $500,000 in state funding for upgrades to the pocket park, the Daily Gazette is reporting. The building will get a full renovation, and change the building from a pool-related space to a community facility inside the park.

Highway superintendent charged with assault

According to Malta Town Court documents, Milton Highway Superintendent David Forbes faces second-degree assault charges, the Times Union says. Allegedly, he shoved another person to the ground, causing head injuries and “brain bleed.”

Still no Canadians

Just 1.7 million people crossed the border from Canada into New York in July, the Times Union is reporting. That is a 22.3% drop from 2024. The North Country Chamber of Commerce based in Plattsburgh, cites the Trump Administration’s tariffs and warns that a trade deal will not make up for the lost revenue and bad feelings. Although U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik represents Plattsburgh and communities along the Canadian border, she did not respond to requests for comment on the story, the TU says.
