Northville’s safe, easy, small boat launch

If you have dunked yourself while entering a small boat such as a canoe or kayak, Northville has a solution for you, the Adirondack Explorer says. The Northville Rotary Foundation raised about $60,000 to help the village build a dock, sliding ramp and framing that helps people enter their small craft safely. The idea came from a Rotary member whose friend was hurt while attempting an ill-fated onboarding.

Man who shot SSPD’s HQ sentenced

The 77-year-old Malta man, Paul Trinci, who fired gunshots outside the Saratoga Springs police station, was sentenced to 11 years in state prison, the Times Union is reporting. Trinci had pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment and criminal mischief in the spring. The sentences, seven years for the reckless endangerment and four years for the criminal mischief, are expected to run consecutively, the story says.

Girl in murder case was drowned

Melina Galanis Frattolin, found dead in a pond in Ticonderoga, was drowned, the Times Union is reporting. Her father first reported her missing on Friday evening but by Sunday, the New York State Police considered her father Luciano Frattolin a suspect and issued an Amber Alert shortly before they found her body.

WNYT reports that two communities in the Ticonderoga area held vigils for the girl.

Schenectady’s housing woes

The Schenectady City Council is The majority of the Schenectady City Council opposes the state’s Good Cause Eviction Law but also did not advance a proposal to create a housing task force that would more closely look at the state’s eviction law to see how it might be implemented, the Daily Gazette says. Municipalities outside New York City may opt into the Good Cause which requires landlords to offer a “good cause” before evicting someone or not renewing their lease, the story says. Those reasons include failure to pay rent, violating terms of a lease, nuisance behavior and illegal occupancy.

Teacher’s union sues Feds

New York State United Teachers union has signed onto a lawsuit seeking to force the U.S. Department of Education and the White House Office of Management and Budget to release about $6 billion in education funding, a story on the North Country Public Radio website says. The money was allocated in March, but the Education Department is withholding payment to ensure that all education funds are “spent in accordance with the President’s priorities.”
