Pastor remembered for service
The Rev. Richard I. Parsons preached that people should help anyone in need, a story in the Times Union says. People are remembering the popular religious leader, who died from complications of dementia Aug. 20 at 81 years old, for how he practiced what he preached by venturing into the community to help the less fortunate and spread the gospel. He helped create the Hamilton Hill Arts Center, and served with the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division, was real estate agent and worked for the New York State Department of Transportation.
Former commissioner pleads guilty to disorderly conduct
Robin Dalton who was Saratoga Springs' public safety commissioner in 2020 and 2021 pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in Wilton Town Court on Tuesday, the Times Union is reporting. She was arrested under her maiden name of Robin Lakian in April for allegedly stealing $148 of merchandise — a petit-larceny charge — from Walmart in Wilton near Northway Exit 15. Her attorney told the paper there were mitigating factors that allowed for disorderly conduct instead of the low-level theft charge. She paid a $250 fine, the story says.

Indivisible’s Town Hall draws 400+
Rep. Paul Tonko, NY-20, was joined by fellow Congressional representatives Becca Balint, VT-at large, and Ayanna Pressley, MA-7, at the Queensbury Hotel last week to discuss their opposition to the recently passed reconciliation act and take a couple jabs at U.S. Rep Elise Stefanik, the Republican who represents New York’s 21st District. She has not held an open-to-the-public forum in years, the Post-Star reported earlier this week. “I’m incredibly honored to be here in my home state of New York with two of my fantastic colleagues, who took the time and distance to come here because they believe the people of New York’s 21st District deserve to have a say in Congress,” Tonko said as the evening kicked off. Stefanik said she went to the Washington County fair that evening, instead.

Mayor’s discussion with Governor’s aide, correction:
In our Lunch Break email of Aug. 27, we said the mayor spoke with Gov. Kathy Hochul about mental health services. They did not, the mayor corrected in a text to the Dispatch. He spoke to the governor about Short-Term Rental legislation. He spoke to an aide about mental health and STRs, as short-term rentals are known. It was our error and we apologize for the mistake. The story has been corrected on the website.
Moran Trial, correction or clarification:
An error or misconception in the author’s notes became a misstatement in the story of Dillon Moran’s trial Aug. 27. The prosecution rested on Tuesday Aug. 26, but the defense still has the ability to call witnesses including asking Dillon Moran to testify in his own defense on Friday, Aug. 29.
Fun with the Massachusetts flag
Remember Boaty McBoatface, the autonomous underwater vehicles (tiny submarines) of the National Oceanography Centre in the UK? They were so named in 2016 when an online poll to name a British research vessel was opened to the public, who took that job very seriously.
Well now, the Massachusetts Seal, Flag, and Motto Advisory Commission has faced a similar situation, says Boston.com, with recommendations for a new flag that include the scoreboard from a huge New England Patriots win, the colors of Dunkin’ Donuts (based in Massachusetts), and the state’s dinosaur in full sprint with a cup of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, because, you know, everything runs on Dunkin’. Even dinosaurs.
Potential new mottos: “Witch-Free since 1693,” and “In Cod We Trust.”
By the way, the British ship eventually became the Sir David Attenborough after the acclaimed scientist. We’ll see if “The Gateway to New Hampshire” makes to the final rounds with the Massachusetts commission.
