UPDATED, July 7, 9:10 a.m.: Northway median accident after crash

Southbound between Exits 16 and 15.

July 7, 9:10 a.m.: A four-door sedan crossed three lanes of traffic on the southbound lanes of the Adirondack Northway Interstate-87, hit a “No U-Turn” sign and a tree before catching fire in the median, State Trooper Stephanie O’Neil tells the Dispatch, this morning.

The driver of the vehicle was the sole occupant who sustained what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries from the crash itself and had exited the vehicle before the fire started. Citations were issued and the crash is still under investigation, O’Neil said.


Original post July 6, 9:30 p.m.: A car is in the median of the near the southbound lanes of Northway Interstate-87 between Exits 16 and 15. Emergency responders are on the scene. Crews could be seen working with at least one person on the left shoulder. At about 9:15 p.m. more emergency crews were arriving including a fire truck.

Smoke could be seen about a half-mile north of the fire, and traffic moved far to the right and slowed to about 25 mph this evening. Google maps is showing very slow traffic in the vicinity.
