💃 TALES FROM DOWNTOWN
I promised I would tell you why this bikini-clad gem is named…Abby
Standard Fare (21 Phila Street) has another new horse painting hanging at check-in. And if you look closely, you’ll see a familiar name.
Yup, the irreverent horse lounging in a teeny bikini is named…Abby’s Pick.
“It’s always fun to portray another resident of my home here in Saratoga Springs,” artist Daniel Fairley deadpanned when I asked him to explain his inspiration.
Argh.
“And who is the resident you are portraying?” I asked, since your favorite middle-aged writer was most certainly not the model.
“You duh.”
Artists
So I’ll tell you the story instead. Fairley, who works the analytical side of his brain at his day job in IT, once asked me about my day job, SEO writing to improve a web site’s views. “So what gets clicks?” he asked.
“Bikinis,” I joked.
And a star was born.
Go check her out at Standard Fare — I’ll be there for Easter brunch — before she’s purchased and moved to her new home.
And for the uninitiated…the series of “deranged” horses has become somewhat of a status symbol, with fans buying them right off the restaurant wall as fast as Fairley can paint them.

📰 IN BRIEF
The horror
The protagonist in an upcoming book adaptation of the Hitchcock thriller Psycho is from — you guessed it — the Spa City. “Although only a relatively small percentage of the novel takes place in Saratoga, the city looms large in the story, right up until the final sentences,” writes Jonathon Norcross in Saratoga Today. In real life, the author, Norcross reports, splits her time between Brooklyn and the Catskills. Marion by Leah Rowan will be out in June and is available for pre-order.
