You are reading a FREE version of the Dispatch. Much of our content goes behind the paywall July 21 — this Monday — but we are offering a deal: Take an annual subscription by July 20 and get a 13th month FREE. That’s right 13 for the price of 12, but you have to act now!
Lee Enterprises, the owner of the Post-Star in Glens Falls, the Buffalo News and the Auburn Citizen in Central New York, along with about 70 more papers nationally, has entered a $9.5 million class action settlement, Stoudemire, et al. v. Lee Enterprises, Inc., with people who between Dec. 19, 2020, until March 4, 2025, subscribed to a Lee paper, had a Facebook account and watched videos posted on Lee stories.
“Plaintiffs allege Lee disclosed Plaintiffs’ and Settlement Class Members’ personally identifiable information (“PII”) to Facebook through use of tracking methods without consent in violation of the Video Privacy Protection Act (the “VPPA”),” the information on the website says. Lee denies it and is settling only to avoid the cost and uncertainty a full lawsuit would bring.
People who feel they deserve some of that settlement money ($41.01 is the expected payout), need to fill out a claim form by the end of business, July 17, 2025. People who qualify should have gotten a post card with claim form access information in the mail; however, the website offers other methods of contact.
