Be heard: Upcoming public hearings with Saratoga Springs schools and city council
Topics, times, dates and places.

Saratoga Springs City Council to amend speed limits
25 mph will be the new standard speed on streets throughout the city (excepting arterial streets, school zones that are set at 15 mph, and other special locations).
Commissioner of Public Safety Tim Coll set the change at the hearing at the July 15 city council meeting. Officially, he is asking to amend Chapter 225-12 of the City Code entitled "Speed Limits.” The draft law has not been posted yet to the city’s website.
The Complete Streets Committee will give a presentation at the start of the public hearing at 6:30 p.m.
Aug. 5, 6:30 p.m. (special time): City Council Chambers, main floor City Hall, 474 Broadway. The regularly scheduled city council meeting will begin at 7 p.m. or as quickly thereafter if the public hearing runs long.
Saratoga Springs City School District Board
The schools are seeking content on the the “New York State Project SAVE District-Wide Safety Plan For Saratoga Springs City School District 2025-2026 School Year.”
From the plan’s introduction: “New York State School Districts are required to develop a district-wide safety plan designed to prevent or minimize the effects of serious violent incidents, declared state disaster emergencies involving a communicable disease or local public health emergencies and other emergencies. This plan will be used to facilitate the coordination of the district with local, county and state resources in the event of such incidents or emergencies.”
Very little has changed since last year. An explanation of the COVID pandemic and then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s decision to close schools was removed and replaced with “The District has created a Pandemic Continuity of Operations,” on page 11.
Page 9 now mentions an “Extreme Heat” policy, saying simply that the school board has adopted Policy 8113 that deals with extreme heat. That has been adopted and is policy for the schools already; the mention in the SAVE plan merely indicates that the school now has a policy. Read the heat policy here.
Public hearing: 6:30 p.m., Schools Administration Building, Blue Streak Blvd. Conference Room #221-223
