Shopping cheat sheet! We know you're tired.
But first: Party theme: 'Your Birth Year,' in pics.
A little less “Dish-y” today, Saratoga — I spent the week in a DayQuil haze. But not all heroes wear capes, and our very own Sophia hit the streets to create a shopping cheat sheet for us holiday-weary ones who need shopping to be quick and easy this weekend.
See you out there!
But first…
“What would you wear to a holiday party themed ‘Your Birth Year’?
That’s what Seen in Saratoga asked Instagram followers, and the answers were priceless.
The tricky part? Finding pics from the photographer’s (enormous) stash — because Seen has been snapping around town for only a few years.
But retro is back, baby. We found two great ones. Enjoy.
Follow Seen in Saratoga on Instagram and keep an eye on the account’s Stories to jump into next week’s anonymous Q&A.
Last day to donate a toy!
It’s the last day to donate a toy to the beloved local drive Toys for Toga, so when you’re out shopping today, don’t turn up empty-handed. There are toy bins everywhere. For a list of drop-off locations (or to donate to the cause online), go to discoversaratoga.org. And watch the org’s podcast — below — about the drive’s importance to the local community (maybe have a Kleenex nearby).
*LAST CHANCE* to tell us if you want events calendars (or if you really don’t).
(Yes or No question is right up top.)
12 days until Christmas…
SARATOGA SPRINGS — Consider this your super-quick, get-in-and-get-out guide to shopping around Saratoga Springs — each stop tailored to a different person in your life.
Magic Moon: for the proudly “witchy and whimsical”
Magic moon is a crystal girlie’s staple. Vibrant knit hats, gloves and mukluks line the entryway and make the perfect addition to any winter gift.
Insider tip: For anyone in your life who’s just beginning to explore the metaphysical or simply loves a touch of the mystical, Magic Moon carries a great selection of beginner-friendly reads at the back of the lower level.
Stocking stuffer: On your way out, snag a “Mystery Christmas” box or bag by the register.
Impressions: for the Saratoga Race Course fanatic
Impressions of Saratoga definitely lives up to its name; the shop is full of pieces inspired by the town itself.
Top pick: I couldn’t resist the “Soggy Day Survival Kit” — dice, a flask and a deck of cards to get through a rainy day.
Insider tip: All the way in the back, there’s a fun little kids’ section for the little ones!
Stocking stuffer: Really cool shot glasses. Or a beautifully painted martini, wine or Champagne glass.
Saratoga Saddlery Boutique: for those with chic winter style and ready to hit the slopes — and beyond
Packed with super-cute apparel perfect for winter fun. From adorable ski-themed hats to Pendleton winter boots that are equal parts stylish and practical, this is the place to outfit anyone who loves to look good while braving the cold.
Northshire Bookstore: for the book lover with too many unread books
“Bookish” is in the zeitgeist right now. Here’s where to go — think reading lights and the perfect totes for hauling your literary loot. (Plus every book you could imagine and an entire kids floor.)
Insider tip: A good puzzle is pure joy; head all the way to the back of the first floor to find Northshire’s impressive stash.
Stocking stuffers: Bookmarks and little wooden book-shaped boxes with assorted messages on the front and a tiny ornament inside.
Silverado Saratoga: for the person in your life whose favorite color is sparkle
Silverado is a true Saratoga staple—you can tell by the steady stream of people milling about the store. What really sets it apart is the staff. Even if you walk in completely clueless about what to get someone, they will absolutely help you find the perfect gift.
Insider tip: All you really need to know is whether your giftee prefers gold or silver and a little sense of their style — the staff will take it from there and make sure your gift shines.
Soave Faire: for the young at heart and the artfully inclined
Started over 40 years ago by Lynn and Vito Soave, Soave Fair carries a huge selection of toys, hats, art supplies and more.
Insider tip: Shopping for an art lover? Head to the elevated section in the back — they have supplies for all kinds of art forms, and there’s usually someone nearby happy to answer any questions.
Bonus insider tip: Look everywhere! I found the cutest Gigi Hill purse tucked away for only $13. You never know what treasures you’ll stumble across in this shop.
White elephant or gag gift: Your one-stop shop. Think fake worms, whoopee cushions, snot and silly body parts everything.
Frivolous Boutique: for the girls’ girls
Frivolous feels just as fun and flirty as its name suggests, with stylish pieces for any woman in your life. Inside, the shop is packed with clothing and an incredible selection of gifts, including jewelry, hats and ornate tote bags that come in every size and color.
Stocking stuffers: Motivational pens, espresso martini-themed merch, Saratoga-themed mugs, and all kinds of quirky treasures.
