Algal bloom closes beach
Cristina Connolly was not wrong when she told the Dispatch yesterday: “The coming days in the 90s and no wind, it’s ripe for HABs.” She is the lake administrator with the Saratoga Lake Protection and Improvement District, and she was right. The New York State HABs map shows two confirmed algal blooms from yesterday at Brown’s Beach. The beach has been closed since yesterday, and the HAB reports were posted after we posted our story.

Northshire Bookstore on the sidewalk
Employees of the Northshire Bookstore set up shop today on the sidewalk in front of their 424 Broadway store in Saratoga Springs. That location of the bookstore — it has another store in Manchester Center, Vermont — has been closed for indoor browsing since the July 4 holiday when water from an apartment above the store leaked. However, they have started a curbside service and have started selling from a table and book cart on the sidewalk. No word yet on a reopening date. For more on this story, click here.
