The races and candidates
Saratoga Springs voters head to the polls in as little as four weeks, and vote on 11 positions, four of which are uncontested.
Con. = Conservative; Dem. = Democrat; GOP = Republican; One = One Saratoga; WFP = Working Families Party. An “I” indicates the incumbent, if there is one. (One Saratoga is not a political party but a group of about 16 people who have gotten a line on the ballot. Their purpose is to endorse the best candidate regardless of party, their website says. They are included here because they have a line on the ballot.)
Letter to the Editor
Former longtime Mayor speaks out
My fellow Saratogians,
As your former Mayor from 2008 to 2014, I’m writing this letter of endorsement and support for George Ehinger in his campaign to become the next County Supervisor. I unequivocally can attest to his qualifications and demeanor to help lead our City at the County level, particularly when such attributes are increasingly rare in our over polarizing political arenas these days.
I have personally known George and his wife, Tamie, for many years, ever since they relocated to Saratoga Springs. Early on I recognized the value that George and Tamie bring to our community and, in fact, appointed Tamie to the Design Review Board while I was Mayor. Back then, George was still tirelessly involved in his successful businesses and raising their family. He now steps forward to give even more back to us with his strengths of approachable collaboration and common sense so desperately needed.
Please join with me in voting for George as County Supervisor on November 4, to ensure we do what’s best for all of us going forward. Thank you.
Scott T. Johnson
Former Mayor of Saratoga Springs

Early voting starts tomorrow! So this concludes our run of letters to the editor. Thank you to everyone who wrote in, and thank you to all for reading!
Giving back
Inclusive Saratoga
Five generous small businesses around the Saratoga area are donating 10% of tomorrow’s sales to Inclusive Saratoga. The new nonprofit creates spaces and experiences where people with disabilities can fully participate. “It is so validating that local businesses believe in our mission of removing barriers so that all people in our community feel welcome,” says Meghan Connolly Haupt, the organization’s executive director.
Participating businesses include: Broadway Coffee Co., Bittersweet Candle Co., Nourish Designs, Spoken Boutique and Hank Hudson Brewing.
Big Brothers Big Sisters
Thanks to a rousing, packed Oktoberfest last Saturday, Adirondack Pub & Brewery presented Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Southern Adirondacks with a check for $16,662, more than $1500 more than last year and.the largest donation ever in the pub’s Oktoberfest’s 19 years. Prost.
TGIF
Cap Regionite in the World Series
Friendly reminder: The World Series starts tonight in Toronto, where the Blue Jays will square off against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Tune in at 8 p.m. to look out for Shaker High grad Jeff Hoffman. He already threw the final pitch that knocked out the Yankees and pitched a perfect ninth inning against the Mariners to help send his team to its first World Series in more than three decades. We’ll see how he does tonight against the reigning world champions.
Dark Side
Falling back into cold dark mornings
Remember to set your clocks back an hour when you go to bed Saturday night — Daily Savings Time comes to an end at 2 a.m. Sunday morning. Enjoy the extra hour of sleep, and then buck up for darker, colder mornings.
On a lighter note
We all make mistakes

There was some light chatter today on the Next Door app about an apartment building on Excelsior that — oops — put up a huge letter “A” in a serif font in reverse, with the thicker side on the left and the thinner on the right. I loved this for two reasons:
It was nerdy, wordy gossip in the wild (i.e., outside of my journalism groups)
It’s a mistake I would totally be in danger of doing.
Great reminder to not take ourselves too seriously. TGIF, everybody. Thank you for reading.
