Schoon Lake’s Seagle Fest to highlight new artists
The Seagle Festival in Schroon Lake will run for the 110th time starting July 9, the Daily Gazette says. Named for the Seagle Colony, the founder, Oscar Seagle, started the festival to be an incubator of future opera singers. “Pirates of Penzance,” “Carmen,” and a new opera “Mayo Buckner (a life interrupted)” are scheduled.
10 shot, buildings ruined by fire, in Albany over the weekend.
Ten people were shot and a house was set ablaze from a flare gun, a story in the Times Union reported on Sunday. The violence occurred in three separate incidences and mostly involved minors, near the Empire State Plaza beginning at 5:30 p.m. July 4th and running into the wee hours of July 5, the story says.
Watervliet celebrates Erie Canal’s place in the Industrial Revolution
Watervliet Historical Society & Museum is celebrating the vital role the city played in the operations of the history-changing, engineering feat known as the Erie Canal, the Times-Union is reporting. The canal turns 200 years old in October and Watervliet wants to bring its role in the economy and culture of the time to the forefront of understanding.
Recovery for a man presumed drowned in Great Sacadaga Lake
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man who apparently drowned while attempting to help his girlfriend get back to shore after she slid off her water raft and had troubles getting back on. A couple in a pontoon saved her, but her boyfriend could not be found, a story in the Daily Gazette says. The incident occurred Sunday.

Is N.Y. 21 still up for grabs?
Possible candidates in the run to succeed U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik (Republican, NY-21) when it looked like she would become the ambassador to the United Nations in the Trump Administration are still looking to run if she chooses to challenge Gov. Kathy Hochul next year, a story in the Times-Union over the weekend says. At least four people who put their hats in the ring last year are still mulling a run if Stefanik steps down, the story says.

The stock markets are off by small percentages in pre-market trading, according to numbers from Marketwatch, with the NASDAQ leading the way down by 0.4%.
