SARATOGA SPRINGS — Channel 13’s Mark Mulholland seemingly never stopped smiling last weekend — from his uber-successful “Calling All Angels” gala Saturday night celebrating his beloved nonprofit’s 15 years, to dumpster diving the next morning.

“Saturday was far better than I could have ever expected,” Mulholland says. “We called all angels and they showed up in droves to help make sure we’re here to help when more kids and families need a lift.”

”What began with a small gathering of dear friends in my family room in Wilton, has now provided more than $750,000 and counting in grants and scholarships to area children and their families,” Mulholland says. “I’m proud of our board and volunteers, proud of our work, and grateful to the angels who answered the call Saturday night.”

It’s a bop: Stewart’s gets a makeover, in rap
The Dake fam might live in Saratoga, but it took a fan in Schenectady to immortalize Stewart’s in rap: “Take Me Down to Stewy’s,” by Jackson Simpson and featuring Azel and Grey Mizzy. According to CNY News, it’s a parody of “Teach Me How to Dougie.”
Party in a haunted mansion, if you dare

If these walls could talk…the new owners of Union Gables Inn (55 Union Ave.) are opening their doors on Halloween night for a bash fit for a historic Union Ave. mansion. “Halloween feels like the perfect time to open up to locals as a place to visit, mingle and take in a bit of old-world charm — its 125 years of history lends itself well to a little mystery and fun,” says chef/owner Justin Daw (in addition to being a B&B, the inn also hosts Libby Supper Club). “Join us for drinks, snacks, and live music… let’s get to know each other!”
Tickets for the Oct. 31 house party are $50 and include live music by Matt Cosgrove and a Libby Supper Club party spread of nostalgic snacks and charcuterie. “It’s a costume party,” Daw says. “I was thinking Labyrinth, but I don’t want anyone to feel they need to get too fancy.” For more info, visit Libby Supper Club on Tock.
Ending on a Hi-Note: new bar gets an ETA
As we mentioned last week, the bar in the old Adirondack Cigar Shoppe is nearing completion, but in the past week we scooped up an ETA (and the bar’s name).
We’ve got “hi-hopes” (too easy) for The Hi-Note: the potential new hotspot at 63 Putnam Street, across the street from Taquero. The two petite venues share owners Corey Melancon, Ryan Reed and Brady Dillon, with Rob Rezin joining the Hi-Note team.
Construction of The Hi-Note began in the spring of this year, and Rezin (who’s also behind the branding for Taquero and Familiar Creature) says they are nearing the end. “It’s realistic to say we’ll be open by Thanksgiving, assuming no major delays,” he says.
The space is under 1,000 square feet but Rezin says, “We tried to arrange it thoughtfully so you can come as a small or large group.” The bar will have about nine stools, and a mix of high tops and comfort seating. “The hope is that we can construct the space when’re it can morph depending on what’s going on. We’re leaning into it as a basement bar.”
The “cocktail-forward, neighborhood bar” will have “elevated low-brow bar food” and a small stage, Rezin says. “We want it to be the kind of space where you leave in a good mood…not on a low-note.”
(Looks like it was too easy for him, too.)
