Schenectady residents and community leaders gathered across the city for a series of events on July 4 aimed at honoring the country’s founding and calling for action and social justice in the city and were asked to sign the Declaration of ONE Schenectady pledge, which calls the community to organize to bring about change, the Daily Gazette is reporting.

Trump signs “Big Beautiful Bill” into law
The Times-Union carried the Associated Press Story. That story highlights the multiple wins that Trump claims with the passage including two Supreme Court decisions that favored him and the attack on Iran’s nuclear development facilities. All this while detractors focused on cuts to Medicaid and other social safety net spending.
The Adirondack Daily Enterprise has a piece about the affect the bill’s cuts to Medicaid will have on rural healthcare. “While supporters of the bill argue the changes will strengthen Medicaid, the possible loss of revenue to local health systems could cause some services to become unavailable for everyone, according to several North Country doctors,” the story says.

We meant to post, yesterday, this story from The Post-Star about a new boutique of local vendors on Saratoga Avenue in South Glens Falls. The owner makes space for small companies to ply their wares. At this hour: Traffic, weather and the markets
Weather
Today will be beautiful with sunny high temperatures in the mid-80s, according to the National Weather Service’s Albany office, but tomorrow brings another wave of unhealthy heat and humidity. A heat advisory has been issued for noon to 8 p.m. Sunday July 6. The high temperature is expected to hit 92, but it will feel like 98, the advisory says.
Traffic
We are writing this rather early this morning but will not post it until later this morning, so traffic news would be moot.
Premarket trading
The markets continue their climb, up between 0.75% and about 1% in premarket trading, according to numbers from Marketwatch.
