Is road salt an issue in Saratoga Lake?
A Saratoga Lake Association-commissioned report has asked the four municipalities that share the lake’s shoreline to reduce road salt use during the wintertime, after the report found that some levels of salinity are “detrimental to aquatic life” and that salt levels are higher than reported by the Saratoga Lake Protection and Improvement District, the Times Union is reporting. Officials in Saratoga Springs and the Town of Saratoga are taking some steps to reduce the use of salt, the story says, but officials in the Town of Malta did not respond and the Town of Stillwater will take any action, the story says, citing reports from the Saratoga Lake Protection and Improvement District.

Roglieri Mansion in Queensbury sold
The 14-acre estate once owned by loan broker Kris Roglieri has been sold for $1.6 million, the Times Union is reporting. The property was sold to pay of creditors of the man who is charged with wire fraud and of swindling clients in a multimillion-dollar scheme that funded Roglieri’s lavish lifestyle, officials have said. Jailed in Rensselaer County for over a year, he goes to trial in January in federal court in Albany.

Flare-gun crackdown after July 4 fires, violence
Capital Region lawmakers said they will seek to make flare gun sales to people under 21 illegal and to make sure their use is a "criminal possession of a weapon," in a crime, after a gunfight in Albany over the Fourth of July weekend burned down a historic building and sent people to the hospital, a story in the Times Union says.

New York would lose over $15 billion annually for Medicaid and SNAP food assistance benefits under the “Big Beautiful Bill” that President Donald Trump signed over the holiday weekend, says a story in NY Focus. They cite an analysis from a left-leaning think tank. People on Medicaid could fall by 1.5 million and people using SNAP could fall by 1 million, the story says.
