DAY TRIP: HUDSON
🍷 Hudson daytrip: Why Neverstill wine aims to craft community — think fabulous parties and Mahjong, oh yeah.
By: Kathleen Willcox
Christy Counts wants you to live your best life — and for her, that means community.
Everything about Neverstill Wines’ lightweight bottles, terroir-driven wines, and gorgeously decorated tasting room at the top of Hudson’s Warren Street reflects her ethos of creating experiences that connect people, while treading lightly on the land.
“For me, wine isn’t about getting a buzz,” Counts says, of her decision to beautify a gritty corner with a loungy, modern-but-plush, light-filled tasting room with a vast backyard space. “It is, ideally, a well-crafted and beautiful vehicle for connection.”
Counts’ low-intervention, sustainably minded Finger Lakes brand — named for the Mohican description of the Hudson River as the “waters that are never still” — crafts Rieslings, Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc and a Cayuga White Pet-Nat from the 9.5-acre vineyard she purchased alongside Seneca Lake. (The Cayuga is sourced from a grower friend).

Retreat Into Wine — Mahjong, anyone?
To bring people together outside her chic Hudson tasting room, Counts is also creating several retreats with themes such as style and wellness, women in leadership, and vintage crafting — when not pouring at fabulous events.
“Everyone is obsessed with Mahjong, including me, so we’re creating a Mahjong retreat,” she says. “We’ll also have hikes, dinners and wine tastings as part of the experience.” (She’s also eyeing Saratoga for some wine dinner ideas.)
“I love bringing people together,” she says. “I’m never still, always moving and evolving.”
🗓️ Sunday events:
*Correction: Wilton Mall’s carnival begins today at 1 p.m., not 5 p.m. as originally reported in Thursday’s events calendar.
🎪 Wilton Mall Carnival — Wilton Mall at Saratoga | 1 p.m.
Just what it sounds like! A carnival at the mall — outside, in the B.J.’s parking lot — including games and food.
🎶 Annie and the Hedonists — Caffè Lena | 7 p.m.
After Caffè Lena’s afternoon lineup today at the Beekman Street Art Fair (Question of The Century at 12 p.m., Natalie Santini at 1 p.m., Mark & Jill and 2:20 p.m., and Griff at 3:45 p.m.), they return home for the “beloved” Annie and the Hedonists. Think vintage jazz, swing, blues and roots Americana — Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzergerald and Billie Holiday.
🎶 Mostly Modern Orchestra & Ravel’s “La Valse” — Arthur Zankel Music Center | 4 p.m.
Perfect for families (all ages 5+), seniors, first-timers and dedicated fans. This afternoon performance features the harp with Mostly Modern’s Concerto Competition winner, Sophie Kim, performing Kaija Saariaho’s Trans for Harp & Orchestra.
🍷 Celebrity Wine Dinner — Standard Fare | 7 p.m.
If you like SJP’s fashion, you’ll love her wine — or at least, that’s what sippers will determine during this Sunday night wine tasting and dinner featuring vino made by Hollywood stars.

REVIEW
🍳 Got an emergency brunch sitch? Head to PDT Maison
I love everything about spring and summer in Saratoga Springs, except the brunch sitch.
But I have an update: PDT came to my rescue
Brunch at PDT Maison, which is perched off of the chaos of Broadway on Maple Avenue, not only oozes European café charm featuring a healthy(ish) menu that serves up freshly sourced salads, bowls, sandwiches and flatbreads that walk the line between style and comfort. (Favorites include the croque monsieur, falafel bowl, and all Bianca flatbread).
For me — mom of two humans and two pets, wearer of many hats, and close and personal friend of many fabulous women with complicated lives — brunch isn’t just a meal, it’s an essential coping mechanism. It’s the place where we gather (far too rarely) to hash out issues with our partners and / or ex-partners, bounce ideas about work off of each other, swap cat and dog photos, trade war stories about our young teenagers, and generally laugh through the roller coaster of life together.
We all emerge feeling stronger, saner and (sometimes for the first time in weeks) heard. But we can’t do that at disco boom-boom levels of noise, next to crowded tables of bachelorette parties, hovered over by a staff member eager to “flip the table.” (Also no judging, and God bless them, one and all).
PDT is, thanks to its slightly off-the-grid location, if not serene, definitely chill, and run with calm efficiency.
The Sicilia-Scandi style vibes, strong coffee, and seasonal cocktails seal the deal. Order the frites for the table, maybe two. And have fun: you’re allowed to (occasionally).
